The Royal Red Maple tree is a cross between the Norway Maple and the Sugar Maple. It is noted for its magnificent maroon foliage which retains its color throughout the growing season.
These striking trees are a popular shade tree. They can reach heights of 75 feet with an oval, rounded spread of 25-30 feet. In spring, yellow flowers will bloom on Royal Red Maple tree branches.
Beautiful, glossy, purple leaves appear in spring and early summer. They are large, and five-lobed, measuring about five inches long. The underside is tinged green. In fall they will become an even deeper red and purple color.
Royal Red Maple trees need full sun to partial shade to grow. Soil should be rich and organic and will grow in sandy or clay soil. Hardiness Zone: 3-9.
