This stunning tree is a cross between the Whitespire Japanese birch and Crimson birch. It is exceptionally colorful with burgundy foliage, crisp white bark, and a very vivid mix of colors in the fall.
Trees grow to 30-40 feet tall in an upright, pyramidal shape. Its spread is approximately 15-20 feet. The Royal Frost birch is a fast to moderate grower that requires low maintenance.
Flowers bloom in early spring. Female flowers are greenish-gray and males are brownish-red catkins. The resulting fruit is not significant.
The Royal Frost Birch is truly a tree for each and every season. The burgundy foliage remains throughout the spring and summer but with the advent of fall will change to red, orange and yellow. The Royal Frost’s trunk is a striking white with touches of cinnamon color.
The Royal Frost birch is a low maintenance tree and should be planted in full sunlight to partial shade. The soil should be moist, well-drained, acidic and loamy, sandy or clay. Hardiness Zone: 4-7.
